What’s the difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel?
304 contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel while 316 contains 18% chromium, 10% nickel and 2% molybdenum. Grade 304 proves to be resistant to oxidation, corrosion, acid and alkali resistant. Grade 316 stainless steel alloy contains molybdenum(Mo) bearing it has a more resistance to corrosion than grade 304 in high temperature environments
Why stainless steel will rust ?
Stainless Steel is made of 70% iron and carbon, and anywhere from 30% contain others elements. The stainless steel is due to the special passivation protective film on the steel plate surface. Passivation film is a film based on Chromium(III)oxide(Cr 2O3) on the surface of stainless steel. Due to the presence of this film, can cause the stainless steel not to be corroded and rusted.
