ωρ Parapet – Explanation

A parapet is a low wall or barrier that extends above the edge of a roof, balcony, terrace, bridge, walkway, or other elevated structure. It serves both functional and aesthetic purposes in architecture and construction.

Functions of a Parapet

1. Safety Barrier

   • Prevents people from accidentally falling off roofs, balconies, or terraces.

   • Shields roof edges from wind uplift, rainwater, and fire spread between buildings.

   • Enhances the visual appearance of a building by providing a finished edge.

   • Can conceal rooftop equipment like HVAC units, solar panels, or antennas.

5. Wind & Sound Barrier (in some designs)

   • Reduces wind loads or noise, especially in high-rise structures.
