Full Interior Carpentry, Kitchen Cabinet, Tatami Platform & Storage TV Cabinet
Kitchen Story Sdn. Bhd. completed this interior carpentry and renovation project at Imperial Residences, Relau / Sungai Ara, Penang. The client wanted a practical home design with better storage solutions, especially because they had many household items that needed to be organised neatly instead of being exposed around the house.
The project focused on creating a clean, modern and functional living environment through a custom kitchen cabinet, tatami platform with bed head, and a full-height TV cabinet with integrated storage. The final TV cabinet design became one of the owner’s favourite features due to its strong visual impact and practical storage capacity.

Design Concept
The design direction was based on a modern clean storage concept. The client needed a home that looked neat, spacious and easy to maintain, while still providing enough storage for daily household items.
For the kitchen, we designed a compact but functional cabinet layout with a sintered stone countertop, Teka hob and hood, and a clean white-and-wood colour combination. This keeps the cooking area bright while the darker wood texture at the base cabinet adds warmth and contrast.
For the living area, the TV cabinet was designed as a full-height storage feature. Instead of using only a standard low TV console, we created a wall-length cabinet system with open display boxes and hidden storage compartments. This allows the owner to store more items while keeping the living area visually clean.
For the bedroom, the tatami platform and bed head were designed to maximise space and create a calm, warm sleeping area. The hidden LED lighting behind the bed head adds a soft ambience without making the room feel heavy.
Design Challenges
The main challenge was storage. The client had many household items, so a normal TV cabinet or loose furniture arrangement would not solve the problem. Without proper built-in planning, the house could easily look cluttered.
Another challenge was maintaining a spacious look. Full-height cabinets can sometimes make a living area feel narrow or heavy if the design is not balanced properly.
The kitchen area also required careful coordination between the cabinet layout, hob, hood, wiring, lighting and countertop installation to ensure a clean final finish.
Our Solution
We proposed a custom-built storage system that combines hidden storage, open display shelves and practical cabinet compartments. The full-height TV cabinet was designed to make use of the vertical wall space while still keeping the design interesting through staggered open shelves and a mix of white and wood finishes.
For the kitchen, we used a sintered stone countertop for a premium and durable work surface. The Teka hob and hood were integrated neatly into the cabinet design, while LED lighting improved the cooking area’s usability.
For the bedroom, the tatami platform was designed to fit the room layout efficiently, while the bed head feature with LED lighting helped create a warmer and more comfortable atmosphere.
Final Outcome
The completed Imperial Residences project transformed the home into a cleaner, more organised and more functional living space. The custom TV cabinet solved the client’s storage issue while becoming a standout design feature. The kitchen cabinet provides a practical cooking area with a modern finish, while the tatami platform and bed head create a comfortable bedroom environment.
