Kitchen Cabinet & Altar Partition Cabinet Design and Build
Kitchen Story Sdn. Bhd. completed this custom carpentry project at Mont Residence, Mount Erskine, Tanjung Tokong, Penang for one of our existing clients. The project focused on upgrading the home with a new kitchen cabinet in a natural wooden texture design, together with an altar cabinet and display partition to separate the foyer from the living area.
The overall design direction combines natural wood tones, clean black accents and a practical modern layout. The kitchen was planned to look warm, organised and easy to maintain, while the altar partition cabinet creates a stronger entrance feature without fully closing off the living space.

Design Concept
The kitchen cabinet was designed with a natural wood and modern contrast concept. The upper cabinets use a light wood texture to soften the kitchen space, while the darker base cabinet panels give the design a clean and contemporary appearance. The sintered stone countertop adds a premium surface that is suitable for daily cooking, food preparation and easy cleaning.
The altar cabinet was designed not only as a prayer area, but also as a functional partition feature. It separates the foyer from the living area while still keeping the home visually open. The vertical design, display niche and warm lighting help create a welcoming entrance without making the space feel narrow.
Design Challenges
The first challenge was to design a kitchen that looked modern but still warm enough for daily family use. A fully dark kitchen may look heavy, while a fully white kitchen may feel too plain. The material balance had to be carefully selected.
The second challenge was the altar cabinet. It needed to serve both spiritual and space-planning functions. If the cabinet was too bulky, it would block the entrance flow. If it was too simple, it would not create enough visual impact as a foyer partition.
Our Solution
For the kitchen, we used natural wood textures for the upper cabinet areas and darker glossy cabinet panels for the base cabinets. This created a balanced contrast between warmth and modernity. The sintered stone countertop was selected for its clean appearance, durability and easy maintenance.
For the altar partition cabinet, we designed a slim vertical feature with display shelving, warm lighting and darker accent tones. This helped define the foyer area while maintaining an open connection to the living space. The cabinet also provides storage and display function, making it more practical than a decorative partition alone.
Final Outcome
The completed Mont Residence project delivers a practical and refined home upgrade. The kitchen cabinet offers improved storage, better appliance integration and a cleaner cooking workflow. The altar cabinet adds a meaningful entrance feature while helping separate the foyer from the living area.
